Pacific Ocean (Aug. 9, 2003) -- The guided missile destroyer USS John Paul Jones (DDG 53) fires a five-inch round from a Mk-45 5-inch gun (5" 54 cal.) during a live-fire exercise. The Mk-45 is a lightweight gun providing surface combatants accurate naval gunfire against fast, highly maneuverable, surface targets, air threats and shore batteries during amphibious operations.
