INDIAN OCEAN (July 2, 2007) – The nuclear-powered aircraft carrier USS Nimitz (CVN 68) prepares to drop anchor off the coast of Chennai, India. Nimitz is the first nuclear-powered aircraft carrier to visit India. The Nimitz Carrier Strike Group was operating in the Pacific and Indian Oceans as part of the U.S. Seventh Fleet.
