Awards recognize companies for superior website design and content

CHICAGO, August 28, 2006—Nominations are now being accepted for the 2007 North American Marine Industry Web Awards, sponsored by boats.com and the National Marine Manufacturers Association (NMMA). The Awards recognize companies leading the North American marine industry’s drive toward higher standards of excellence in both website design and content.Five categories have been created to honor various segments of the North American marine industry and the companies whose websites demonstrate creativity in design, ease of navigation and up-to-date, relevant content. Awards are presented in the following categories: Best OEM/Manufacturer Site; Best Marine Equipment Site; Best Dealer/Broker Site; Best Marine Site Overall; and Outstanding Contribution to the Online Marine Industry. This last category, Outstanding Contribution to the Online Marine Industry, is open to any individual who has made a significant contribution to the development of the Internet within the marine industry.

NMMA Now Accepting Nominations for 2006 Alan J. Freedman Award

CHICAGO, June 15, 2006 -- The National Marine Manufacturers Association (NMMA) is currently accepting nominations for the 23rd Annual Alan J. Freedman Memorial Leadership Award. The award, which is sponsored by NMMA’s Accessory Manufacturers Division (AMD) Board of Directors, honors the memory of Freedman, a former NMMA Shows Committee chairman and active association member who helped found the association in 1979. It will be presented this year during the International BoatBuilders’ Exhibition & Conference, taking place November 1-3 in Miami.

The Freedman Award recognizes an individual who has made outstanding contributions to the marine industry through leadership, creativity and personal motivation. Recent past recipients of the award include: James W. Taylor, Taylor Made Group Inc. (2005); Bob Selig, Davis Instruments (2004); and Fred Kegelmeyer, Brunger Export Company (2003). “This award is the highest possible honor to bestow on a member of the marine accessories community,” says Rick Russell, director of Anderson Marine Division in Grandview, Missouri, and chairman of NMMA’s AMD Board. “To be recognized with this honor is a sign of significant achievement in this industry.”

Coast Guard Announces Winners of 2006 Benkert Award

WASHINGTON (June 14, 2006) - The Coast Guard has awarded the 2006 William M. Benkert Environmental Award to corporations from Alaska, California, Kentucky, New Jersey, Ohio, South Carolina, Texas, Washington, and the United Kingdom. The awards will be presented during the American Petroleum Institute Tanker Conference on June 26 in San Diego, Calif.The William M. Benkert Award is the premier national award for excellence in marine environmental protection. The award recognizes vessel and facility operators who have implemented marine environmental protection programs that go beyond mere compliance with industrial and regulatory standards.

Marine Manufacturer Engineers Win SAE Arch T. Colwell Merit Award

WARRENDALE, Pa., May 15, 2006 - A team of marine engine manufacturer engineers has been selected to receive SAE International’s Arch T. Colwell Merit Award. They were presented the award at the SAE 2006 World Congress in Detroit, April 3-6.

This award, established in 1965, annually recognizes the authors of papers of outstanding technical or professional merit. Papers are judged primarily for their value as new contributions to existing knowledge of mobility engineering. The award was funded by the late Arch T. Colwell, who served SAE International in many capacities for nearly 50 years, including a term as President in 1941. Seven papers were selected from 2,677 published for SAE International meetings in 2004, including a paper authored by this team: “Predicting and Optimizing Two-Stroke Engine Performance Using Multidimensional CFD” (2004-32-0039).

CRN Shipyard Launched a New Custom Line 128'

CRN shipyards launched the third 128 feet signed by Custom Line.
“Anne Marie”, the name given to the boat by the ship owner, has glided into the water like a real queen, majestic and sophisticated in its elegant composite white hull.The suggestive launch was attended by Mr. Lamberto Tacoli, Managing Director of the Shipyard, together with a representative from the ship owner, Arch. Giovanni Zuccon and the company staff. The ceremony was filled with great emotions and great enthusiasm shared by all the participants. The Ancona shipyard, which is going through an exceptional period is currently building simultaneously 27 new boats from 29 to 72 metres, including 6 boats in steel and aluminium above 54 metres.

“Anne Marie”, an elegant 40 metre maxi yacht belongs to the 128’ Custom Line, which received two international awards. Last September it received the prestigious “European Yacht Trophies” from the Yacht Magazine, while during the “ShowBoats Awards 2004”, was awarded the prize of “Best New Semi-Production Series”.

The launch of this boat represents for the Ancona Shipyard another important success, but also an important celebration for all those who have contributed to its creation.
